THE FUN-TO-DRIVE 2020 PORSCHE MACAN

The 2020 Porsche Macan may be sold as an SUV, but its DNA is definitely a sports car. It offers Porsche’s expected steering and handling, but it also adds an incredible amount of fun particularly when you look at the more advanced trim levels. The 2020 Macan will be offered as a base trim, S, GTS, and Turbo. The GTS and Turbo trims were brought back to the lineup after missing from the 2019 model.

All trims use the 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission which offers extremely fast shift times and can switch multiple gears when you stomp on the accelerator. The engine choices for the various trims include:

• The base engine is a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder developing 248 HP and offering 0-60 MPH in 6.3 seconds.
• The S comes with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine developing 348 HP and 0-60 in 5.1 seconds.
• The GTS comes with a 2.9-liter V-6 developing 375 HP and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds.
• The Turbo uses a 2.9-liter V-6 developing 434 HP and 0-60 in 4.3 seconds.

If you opt for the available Sport Chrono Package with its overboost mode you can shave a couple of tenths of a second off the times above. Both adaptive suspension and air shocks are available to let the driver choose the ride firmness.

The interior of the Macan features seating for five with standard seating in the front. Sport seats are available as are leather enhancements including the dashboard. The Macan uses pushbuttons rather than touch-sensitive controls. Rear cargo space runs about 18 cubic feet which is adequate for the compact SUV class. A 10.9-inch touchscreen is standard. Apple CarPlay is available. There are four Type-C USB ports as well as available wireless phone charging. Owners can opt for premium sound from Bose or Burmester.
