THE BALANCE OF SUV CONVENIENCE AND SPORTS CAR DNA
The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe is mechanically the same as the Cayenne Turbo SUV with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 developing 541 horsepower and 567 lb-ft of torque, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. But the similarity ends there because the Coupe has smoother lines than the squared-back SUV.
The difference may be small because the Coupe roofline is only 0.7 inches lower but it offers a smooth line pleasing to the eye. The rear seat (two seats are standard, or you can opt for a 3-seat bench) sits 1.2 inches lower to provide adequate headroom. There is also a loss of a few cubic feet of cargo space, but we don’t suspect carrying cargo is the dream of Cayenne Turbo Coupe owners. However, performance is in their minds and the Turbo Coupe should satisfy with an estimated 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds, a quarter-mile in 12.0, and a top speed of 177 mph (based on tests of a Cayenne Turbo).
The Cayenne Turbo Coupe comes with the Sport Chrono package and a fixed glass sunroof as standard equipment, but buyers can also add rear-wheel steering, Porsche Torque-Vectoring Plus, carbon-ceramic brakes, and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control. There is also a Lightweight Sport package available that adds a Sport exhaust, a carbon-fiber roof, a heated Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, and 22-inch forged aluminum wheels, but you lose the sunroof. Porsche states that this package reduces weight by 40 pounds but does not change the performance specs.
The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe is not a significant change from the square-backed SUV version, but owners will love the balance of SUV convenience and sports car DNA to be found in it.
