The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season ended in Atlanta GA with the 10-hour Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta. When it was done, Porsche secured winning titles for the Drivers’ Champions Earl Bamber of New Zealand and Laurens Vanthoor of Belgium, as well as manufacturer and team titles for the season. The squad running the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR won the team title, and in the GTD class the 911 GT3R placed third.

Porsche Wins Petit Le Mans

Fritz Enzinger, Porsche Vice President Motorsport, said, “It’s a historic day for Porsche Motorsport. After winning the manufacturers’ and drivers’ world championship titles in the FIA WEC, we’ve also now secured the titles in the 2019 IMSA championship. Thanks to all the drivers and the entire Porsche team for their excellent performances. Our incredible team spirit and the common goal of winning races for Porsche have made this success story possible.”

These titles make Porsche Motorsport the champions both of FIA WEC and in the United States in 2019. This is a strong testimonial to the power and performance of the Porsche 911 racing heritage and the RSR and GT3R. A full press release and videos of the race program can be found on Porsche’s website.

The Road Atlanta course is 4.088 km and contains the famous and challenging “Esses” in turns two to five, requiring both driver precision and a perfect race car setup. In 21 years, Porsche has secured 20 class wins at the Petit Le Mans including an overall win in 2015 by the Weissach factory squad in the rain, and victory in 2018 in the competitive GTLM class flying Mobil 1 colors.
