Porsche 911 RSR Wins the 24 Hours of Le Mans
The 24 hours of Le Mans were run June 16-17, 2018 at the fabled Circuit de la Sarthe. Porsche once again made history by winning both GTE classes at Le Mans, one of the world’s most difficult long-distance competitions. This was the 86th Le Mans 24 Hours, and Porsche 911 RSR number 92 placed first in the GTE-Pro division. This first and second place finish has extended Porsche’s lead in both the driver’s and manufacturer’s classes of the FIA WEC world championship.
The results for Porsche Racing in the Pro class were as follows:
- 1st Position — 911 RSR No. 92 – 344 laps, fastest lap 3’50.406”
- 2nd Position — 911 RSR No. 91 – 343 laps, fastest lap 3’50.201”
- 11th Position — 911 RSR No. 93 – 334 laps, fastest lap 3’50.539”
- DNF — 911 RSR No. 94 – 92 laps, fastest lap 3’51.192”
Also, the No. 77 Porsche entered by Dempsey-Proton Racing won the GTE-Am class. This Le Man makes a total 107 class wins for Porsche. Additional Porsches entered in the amateur division included a 911 from Proton Racing in 4th place, a 911 RSR from Ebimotors in 6th place, and a 911 RSR from Team Project 1 in 7th place. An additional Porsche submitted by Gulf Racing suffered damage from a collision early in the race and ended up at the rear of the field.
The Porsche 911 RSR uses a 4.0 liter water-cooled Boxer engine which offers 510 horsepower. It is paired with a six-speed sequential constant-mesh gearbox for maximum performance. The chassis is a weight-distributed combination of aluminum and steel. The suspension uses a twin coil spring setup front and rear, adjustable anti-roll bars, and electro-hydraulic power steering.
