Porsche 911 Turbo S Ties For 1st Place in the Robb Report USA 2017 Car of the Year
Over the last 15 years, eager car aficionados have awaited the annual Robb Report for their assessment of the best car of the year. For 2017 history has been made because the Report issued a tie for the first time. Along with the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder, the Robb Report also recognized the Porsche 911 Turbo S as their Car of the Year.
Driver Paul Altieri expressed an opinion shared by many that “the 911 has always been and always will be the world’s best sports car. With the Turbo specification, it can also rip the doors off anything Italian that gets in its way.”
The Porsche 911 Turbo S employs a 3.8 liter flat-six engine with turbocharging to develop 580 horsepower. This permits the Turbo S to go from 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds with Sport Chrono, and provides a top speed of 205 mph.
Rob Sechan paid homage to the longevity of the 911 line, originally launched in 1974 as the 930, by stating “the old dog can still really run.” It will stop just as quickly when needed as acknowledged by Danny Del Medico who stated “it has the best brakes of any car I’ve driven in the competition.” The sum of all judges opinions was best expressed by Laura Burstein who stated “It’s nearly impossible to find fault with the 911 Turbo S. Like the overachiever that everyone secretly admires, it does everything remarkably well.”
