911 Speedster Sale Raises $1M for COVID Relief
The final Porsche 911 of the 991-model generation was sold at auction by RM Sotheby’s for $500,000, and Porsche matched that amount to bring the total to $1M for the United Way’s Worldwide Coronavirus Fund. The car is a 911 Speedster, only one of 1948 made in the seventh generation of the revered 911.v
The auctioned Speedster is the last of over 233,000 units manufactured under the seventh generation umbrella. It is painted in GT Silver Metallic and has the Heritage Design Package. The winning bidder also will get a tour of Porsche’s development center, a book detailing their 911’s journey, a bespoke Porsche Design watch, and bragging rights obviously.v
The final Speedster is configured as a GT3 with no top or wing. It contains a naturally aspirated flat-six 4.0-liter engine with a 9000 RPM redline. The odometer reading at the time of the auction was 20 miles and the car was not registered. The auction occurred in April 2020 and ended on the 22nd of April.
