2020 LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR SVJ ROADSTER’S FIRST DRIVE

The 2020 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ (Superveloce Jota) Roadster is not new to the line, but it has received some tweaks that make it feel fresh. It will be very much at home on the track but will also perform nicely on the open road. With its 6.5-liter V-12 naturally aspirated engine developing 759 horsepower, it is one of the most powerful Lamborghini engines ever developed.

The secret to the SVJ’s performance is the ALA 2.0 active aerodynamics system. A series of valves controls airflow over and under the car using the front splitter and rear wing. Depending on the valve positioning, the ALA system switches between drag reduction and increased downforce. The result is positive cornering and quick acceleration in the straights. The system is quite effective with a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph.

The SVJ Roadster is a T-top design, with carbon fiber panels that fit securely into the front trunk or frunk if you will. Once they are there, not much room is left for anything else so plan accordingly if you want open air above you. The Roadster is also not quiet with that 6.5-liter monster sitting just behind you. But wind noise is minimal and there is good airflow for comfort. The interior is spartan and consists of a lot of carbon fiber to reduce weight. The adaptive damper system on the suspension is quite firm by design but becomes quite useful in track conditions.
