Last September at the Paris Auto Show, Porsche unveiled a performance luxury hybrid with its 2018 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Plug-In. Porsche states that the goal with this plug-in is “sustainable mobility”. When you review the specs, we think most owners will forget it’s a plug-in hybrid until they plug it in for the night.

The 2018 Panamera E-Hybrid uses a 2.9 liter twin-turbo V-6 developing 330 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque with an all-wheel drive train. They then combine it with an electric motor providing 136 horses and 295 lb-ft of torque. The result is 462 net horsepower and an impressive 516 lb-ft of torque. Porsche adds their new 8-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, and it’s off to the races with 0-60 times of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 172 mph. To sweeten the pot, Porsche makes their Sport Chrono performance package standard on the hybrid.

If you like to go electric, Porsche claims the 2018 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Plug-In will go 31 miles as an electric vehicle at speeds up to 86 mph. You will be able to get your groceries at the local supermarket quickly and using no gas. Electric power is supplied by a 14.1 kilowatt-hr liquid-cooled battery pack located under the cargo area. Porsche indicates the system can be recharged in 12 hours from a standard outlet or in three hours using a 240V-40A plug.

wo intriguing upgrades in the 2018 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Plug-In are a power delivery system taken from the 918 Spyder supercar, and the fact that the electric motor is always at full power output. Earlier Porsche hybrids didn’t utilize full electric motor output until the accelerator was depressed 80 percent or more.

Additional standard features in the Plug-In Panamera 4 include hybrid-specific driving modes for the Sport Chrono Package, air suspension, and special options for the display panels. The hybrid uses the same touch-sensitive controls as the 2017 Panamera, two 7-inch display panels and a larger 12.3-inch touch screen.

The exciting new 2018 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Plug-in is expected to reach the US market in mid-2017. Manhattan Motorcars will be pleased to connect owners with this exciting new addition to the Panamera line, allowing them to enjoy hybrid technology with all the performance and luxury expected from Porsche.
